Explosion Suppression
Fike Explosion Suppression systems are
designed to detect and chemically suppress an explosion in its earliest stages – before an explosion can cause a disaster or become catastrophic.
While unsuppressed explosion pressures reach dangerous levels in less than 50 milliseconds, Fike’s unique technology can detect and respond in less than 1 millisecond – averting a catastrophe! Fike Explosion Suppression systems are FM Approved and meet or exceed global standards including ATEX, NFPA 69, and CSA.
How Explosion Suppression Systems Work:
Fike explosion suppression systems detect and chemically suppress up to Class ST III dust explosion hazards! The explosion detection sequence begins when a spark or other ignition source ignites in a vessel. As the deflagration grows, the pressure front expands, activating the pressure detector connected to the explosion protection control panel at a preset pressure level. A rupture disc on the HRD suppressor bottle is then opened, releasing nitrogen pressurized to 900 PSI into the vessel, filling the entire cavity and extinguishing the advancing deflagration.
Additionally, when the pressure detector senses an explosion it will activate the gas cartridge actuator and drive the piston on the isolation valve, simultaneously driving suppressant into the ductwork and closing the slide gate to provide mechanical isolation. Mechanical isolation prevents the propagation of the explosion through the ductwork to interconnected vessels. Fike’s explosion suppression systems effectively save lives and property from explosion damage!
